Then to Now: Reaching the Apex
2005: Origins
Apex Environmental Consultants incorporated in March of 2005 and did mostly environmental compliance work in Mississippi.
James Jr. was educated at the University of Southern Mississippi and graduated as a geologist. Before becoming a geologist, James worked mostly in the oil field (running electrical wireline for a time like his father). Post graduation he obtained a job at Masonite Corporation (International Paper) and worked in California for a time – until ultimately coming back to the Laurel, MS to work in the environmental department.
2009: Reorganization
Apex is re-organized and James Musgrove becomes president of the company.
After four years the company was reorganized, and James Musgrove Jr. became president of the company – the company now works in almost the entire southeastern portion of the United States for small to medium sized companies and performs many more services than the time prior. View our services page to know more.
James Musgrove is a registered professional geologist (RPG) with over 25 years of experience in environmental field. Prior to working in the environmental sector James worked in the oil boom of the 1980’s and then attended college at the University of Southern Mississippi to obtain a bachelors in Geology – during which time the oil boom had deteriorated; thus, James ultimately accepted a job with Masonite Corporation (Laurel, MS) in the early 90’s and began his career in the EHS department. While traveling with the company to California and back to Laurel, MS James settled in the Hattiesburg area some years later and began Apex Environmental Consultants.
2010
Jason Musgrove joins Apex as Environmental Engineer.
2013
Jay Harris Musgrove joins Apex as EHS/Technology Specialist.
2015: Cloud Storage
Apex brings client files to the online cloud. This was conducted to conserve paper waste and provide clients with easier access to files via links sent in emails.
2019: Enhanced Client Info
The first client website to host files online for clients comes online. Users could fill out forms and get email copies back. Prior to this the Apex website was strictly informational and non-interactive other than a Contact Us simple form.
2021: Online Payments
Online payments such as credit/debit and ACH became accepted from our online booking software.
2024: Drone Technology
Apex obtains an enterprise level drone. Before this Apex only used consumer grade drones to capture data for customers.
Near Future: New Ideas
We intend to build a DIY system online for clients to manage EHS plans, documents, and reporting. Of course, this path is optional for any client – we will still be building plans and doing inspections, but we plan on marketing to a broad customer base that may want to create documents and plans themselves. EHS managers everywhere can use our site to compliment their workflow to streamline compliance.
Logo Origins – James Musgrove Sr.

During the 1980’s James Musgrove Sr. owned an offshore wireline company in Houma, LA. His logo was the inspiration behind our current logo. Important to note is that James Jr. and Jay Harris Musgrove all performed wireline at some point in their lives. James Jr. was in Louisiana (1980s) and Jay Harris was in North Dakota (2010s).

James (Jim) Musgrove Sr. was in the Marine Corps during WWII and served in the Pacific Theater. Most notably in the battle of Guadalcanal and Okinawa. After Okinawa he was stationed in China. Jim was originally from Jones County, MS and passed on August 9, 2011 at the age of 86 in Biloxi, MS (VA Medical Center). He is buried in Roseland Park Mausoleum in Hattiesburg, MS.
